Small Plates

Tonight I had dinner at Muss & Turner's, a cute little restaurant. They had all kinds of yummies on the menu from fresh seafood to gourmet salads. They also have cases of delicious prepared salads, entrees, and rich desserts! As I pondered the menu, thinking about how to make up for the chocolate birthday cake I had at the office today, I noticed something called "Small Plates".

Small plates are a great way to enjoy a delicious meal and not overdo it! Appetizers, half portions, and tastings all help reduce the calories through portion control. Restaurant portion sizes are typically two to three times what an appropriate portion size might be. By enjoying small plates, you can enjoy a special meal and save big...in calories because of the portion sizes and in money because they're typically cheaper.

I ordered an appetizer size salad and it was easily 3 cups of spinach, 3 ounces of smoked salmon, a hard boiled egg, and just enough dressing to make it tasty. This appetizer portion was more than enough for a filling dinner. And by sharing an order of pomme frites, we got to splurge a little for 1/2 the calories and cash there too! Remember, it's all about portions...next time try a small plate to control yours.
