Everyone who's read my blog knows that I'm a serious chocolate lover. Tonight, I learned about a serious treat...double chocolate beer! Atlanta Brewing Company (http://www.atlantabrewing.com/) has a delicious winter beer that has a delicious undertone of chocolate. Alongside some pretzels, nuts, and popcorn, it was a delicious treat! It's not out on the market yet, according to the guy playing soda-jerk behind the counter, but I could have a taste...It was dark, almost black, with a thick, creamy head. Not the least bit bitter to my palate. The Brewery offers tours on Wednesday and Friday nights and I highly recommend a trip to check it out. It's not easy to find -- I got totally lost! But it's worth the little drive.
So what about alcohol and a healthy diet? Well, it can certainly fit. In moderation, alcohol may help reduce the risk for heart disease and stroke. Wine in particular contains resveratrol, which may have a strong positive effect on the cardiovascular system. Moderation means 1 drink per day for women and 2 drinks for men -- no, you can't save them up and have them all at once! Too much alcohol adds extra calories that can equal extra pounds. It can also lead to poor liver function resulting in high triglycerides (cholesterol), liver disease, and increased risk of gastro-intestinal cancers. Not to mention the toll it takes on relationships and family. As with most things, a little is good, more is definitely not better!
