Life can be so busy! That's been my experience the past couple of weeks. With a busy full-time job, professional and personal obligations, my life seems so full; sometimes too full! How do you find time to eat right?
It would be easy to fall into the trap of allowing fast food or restaurants to make eating easier. But I know that the more people eat out, the more unhealthy they tend to be. Restaurant and fast food establishments use lots of processed, high-salt, high-calorie ingredients that promote obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes. The more you eat out, the higher your risk for these things. So, even though I'm busy as a bee, I still take five minutes in the morning to prepare lunch and pack a healthy breakfast that I'll eat when I get to the office.
The secret? KISS - Keep it simple. Apples, bananas, grapes (that I washed when I brought them home from the market), baby carrots, and mixed greens are all quick and easy, healthy packables for lunch. PBJ or cheese sandwich on multi grain or whole wheat bread. Rice chips, almonds, trail mix, and boxed raisins are quick and easy snacks that I toss into my lunch box. For breakfast, it's a mini-bagel with peanut butter, instant oatmeal, fruit, or a handful of nuts and yogurt as I run out the door. When I get to my desk, I'll have time to eat and it'll be healthy and filling. Dinner is simple too. A big salad with tuna, egg, or beans, whole grain pasta with marinara, or some low-sodium 5 bean soup. The secret truly is KISS.
