My Favorite Cookbooks

I believe that you have to have the right tools to be good at anything. This includes maintaining a healthy diet. For me, one tool that I often use is cookbooks. I can create meals on the fly without any help, but my creativity is sometimes limited. I love the opportunity to be creative, but sometimes I want a sure thing. That's where a cookbook comes in...

My favorite cookbooks are those from the Moosewood Restaurant & Collective (www.moosewoodrestaurant.com). This series of cookbooks were created by a group of chefs, cooks, and foodies devoted to really good HEALTHY food! They are mostly vegetarian, but sometimes include fish. They will provide you with fantastic ideas for using common ingredients paired with uncommon ones. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts...you will find everything you need to make delicious and nutritious meals within these pages! Even for the skeptic about vegetarian foods, these books are fool-proof.

Here are a few of my favorite recipes: Banana Muffins (pg. 274 in Moosewood Restaurant Book of Desserts), Curried Carrot and Parsnip Soup (pg. 100 in Moosewood Restaurant Low-Fat Favorites), and Ecuadorian Quinoa & Vegetable Soup (pg. 75 in Moosewood Restaurant Daily Special). If you're not sure about trying these unique recipes, check the book out of the library first! Good luck with your new tools!!
